Track Lead (Bioinformatics)


Md. Wahidul Islam is a committed bioinformatics researcher and educator, currently serving as the Track Lead (Bioinformatics) at the Big Bioinformatics Lab, CHIRAL, while also contributing to academic and research activities in the Department of Microbiology, Jagannath University—his alma mater, where he completed his graduation. 
With a strong foundation in microbiology and a growing expertise in computational biology, Md. Wahidul Islam works at the intersection of biological data analysis and microbial research. His focus areas include genomics, transcriptomics (especially RNA-seq), antimicrobial resistance, and host-pathogen interactions. At CHIRAL, he leads efforts to build capacity in bioinformatics research through training programs, collaborative projects, and real-world data analysis initiatives. 
He is especially passionate about mentoring the next generation of scientists in Bangladesh, providing them with the tools and skills to conduct high-quality research in genomics and systems biology. Through his work at CHIRAL and Jagannath University, he aims to expand access to modern bioinformatics in resource-limited environments and foster innovation in public health, environmental microbiology, and infectious disease research.
